DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN THE BOURGOGNE, MACON – FRANCE
Depart for Macon in the southern part of Burgundy, about an hour drive north of Lyon. Depending on your train or flight schedule or drive length, you will arrive at your destination early or mid-afternoon. Upon arrival, check-in at your hotel and the rest of the afternoon is at your own leisure. For example, you can take a plunge in the pool of your hotel or take a walk in the area for a first exploration of the vineyards.
Overnight at your hotel.
DAY 2: DISCOVERY OF BEAUJOLAIS (B)
After breakfast you will have plenty of time to relax, take a walk, read a book or go for a swim.
At 2:00 PM you will depart for the northernmost villages of the Beaujolais wine region, where you will taste some of the best wines of the area. First you will discover small villages that have been beautifully preserved and are still somewhat authentic. Then you will travel to arrive in the middle of the vineyards, where you will better understand the characteristics of Beaujolais. You will taste this wine made from the Gamay grape variety at a local winemaker. After this first wine tasting, your journey continues on the small roads through the vineyards and villages. These beautiful, authentic, and often overlooked villages are often off the beaten track of mass tourism. You almost imagine yourself in a medieval or fairytale decor. Your path then continues towards the vineyards of the Brouilly appellation. Here you will participate in a second wine tasting at a winemaker before returning to your hotel around 6:00 PM.
Overnight at your hotel.
DAY 3: DISCOVER THE CHARDONNAY DE BOURGOGNE (B)
After a delicious breakfast, you’ll have plenty of time in the morning to relax, take a walk, read a book, or go for a swim.
At 2:00 PM departure to the north of the wine region around Macon, towards the village of Chardonnay which gave its name to the most famous and most produced white grape variety in the world. It is this Chardonnay that still dominates the hills of the entire Macon region today. First you enjoy the landscapes with beautiful endless vineyards. Then you will participate in a first tasting of this white wine that will awaken your taste buds. After tasting delicious white and red wines (depending on the area visited and winery), visit the heart of the Maconnais mountains, where you can see a beautiful rock formation surrounded by vineyards. It is the chance to learn a little more about this amazing geological phenomenon and to take beautiful pictures of the landscapes with all the surrounding vineyards. Finally, you will be a guest of a second winemaker who will invite you to share his passion with him and taste some of the best wines of the Maconnais. At the end of the afternoon you will return to your hotel where you will arrive around 6 PM.
Overnight at your hotel.
