Learn about the Eger wine region and the Egri ‘Bikavér’ (Bull’s Blood), the Kékfrankos and other typical wines as you soak up the enchanting atmosphere. Feel the atmosphere of the charming Baroque city of Eger while enjoying the ultra-modern wines.
Experience the diversity of the Tokaj wine region with the Furmint grape, taste late harvest wines, the Szamorodni and the Tokaji Aszú wines. The Tokaj wine region is the world-famous wine region of Hungary. The region earned its reputation as a producer of the “Wine of Kings” and the “King of Wines”. Tokaji Aszú wine has been made there for 450 years.

Program
DAY 1
You depart from Budapest at 8:30 AM towards Eger. On the way you stop in Hollókő. Besides being a livable village, this city is a symbol of Hungarian traditions and part of the UNESCO heritage. It is one of the last areas of Hungary where traditions are still maintained and shared with visitors. After the visit and lunch with the locals, head towards the wine region of Eger and explore the wine regions with one of the most interesting winemakers. It will be an incredible basement experience surrounded by 30m high quarry walls. There are 9 cellars with a 1.2 hectare complex. Transfer and check-in at your hotel and free time. There is plenty of time if you want to visit the castle of Eger, for example, or to enjoy one of the thermal baths of the area. Dinner in a cozy wine restaurant of the city. Overnight in Eger.
DAY 2
In the morning you will take a walking tour of the beautiful historic city of Eger with a visit to the Monstrous Basilica, the second largest basilica in Hungary, Dobó Square and the Archbishop’s Cellar. After this you will visit a wine bar for a wine tasting and lunch. During the wine tasting you will taste the elegant and high-quality wines of the Eger region and mix your own “Bikavér”, also called the Bull’s Blood. The next stop is an extremely unique place. You will visit old cave houses that were the home of former settlers. On the way to, take a ride between the vineyards in a jeep or horse-drawn carriage to the caves. Later during the second wine tasting of the day, the host explains the terroir and professionalism. The philosophy of the estate is very simple: the quality of wine depends on the health of the grapes in vineyards. Transfer back to the hotel. Overnight in Eger.
DAY 3
After breakfast, head to Tokaj’s historic and UNESCO World Heritage-listed wine region. After a 90-minute journey, you will arrive in the village of Mád, in the heart of this beautiful wine region and learn about the region’s Jewish heritage. The local guide will tell you about Tokaj’s golden age, the history of local families and more. For lunch you will receive a picnic basket full of local products and wines and climb to a small hill where you will enjoy this escapade goumande (In case of unfavorable weather, lunch at a local restaurant). In addition to tasting some wines, the local wine guide explains the grapes, winemaking traditions and the diversity grounds and importance of stones. After strolling through the vineyards and having lunch, some treasures are waiting to be discovered in a 600-year-old basement labyrinth. A unique underground world. After some time for relaxation, head back to MÁD for dinner. Transfer back to the hotel. Overnight in Tokaj.
DAY 4
In the morning, head to a nearby village to explore very special sweet white wines. The village is known for the sweet world of the noble rot or pourriture noble as it is called by the French. You will taste some late harvest and Aszú wines in one of the largest cellars in the region. After lunch, visit the city of Tokaj. After some free time, visit the famous Rákóczi cellar for a wine tasting. Transfer to the hotel. Visit a wine cellar followed by a wine dinner in an elegant restaurant. Overnight in Tokaj.
DAY 5
To start the day, meet a female winemaker in a nearby village. She will guide you in her cellar and explain how handmade wines of exceptional quality are made. This Tokaj program ends with lunch at a restaurant owned by a wine estate, at the foot of the vineyards. You can climb up the hill or just take a walk in the vineyards. You will travel back in the afternoon to arrive in Budapest in the evening.
DAY 6
After breakfast and according to your flight schedule, you will get a private transfer to the airport. Or, if you want to extend you wine tour, we might customize your journey to Austria, Slovakia, or Czech Republic.
