Short introduction
If you are a wine lover / expert and enjoy exploring new wine routes, this Montenegro wine tour is a perfect choice for you! You will be accommodated in the residence next to the winery and this 5-day tour visits different types of wineries and wine cellars. Most of them are located in the area of Lake Skadar, and also two wineries on the coast of the Adriatic and two in the central part of Montenegro.
You will learn better techniques of grape cultivation, learn about native grape varieties in Montenegro. You will also listen to how people treat international grape varieties and produce the wine; which vessels they use, which modern methods they use. So you will be able to compare both – the wineries and their production methods and the flavors of all their types of wine. The fact that they are mostly family businesses and family wineries adds to an even stronger experience.

Program
DAY 1 – TRIP TO MONTENEGRO (D)
Today you take your flight to Podgorica or Dubrovnik. Upon arrival, you will receive a transfer from the airport to the eco wine resort. This eco wine resort and winery is located in the area of Lake Skadar which is considered a grape cultivation paradise because it is close to the Adriatic sea. It is surrounded by high mountains and has a Mediterranean climate with a large number of Sundays every year. Your accommodation is located in a two century old, renovated winery. You will learn about their wine traditions and you will have the opportunity to taste all kinds of wine in their impressive wine cellars.
The rest of the day is at your own expense.

DAY 2 VINEYARDS IN CENTRAL MONTENEGRO (B, D)
Today you will visit two different wine cellars in the central part of Montenegro not so far from the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica. On the way to the first winery, drive along a scenic road with a beautiful view of Lake Skadar. The first stop of this day is the largest and most beautiful vineyard in Europe, located in the unique region between the Adriatic Sea, Lake Skadar and the high mountains! The winery is one of the most successful in Montenegro with a more than 1000 years of Montenegrin tradition of viticulture and winemaking. This winery mainly focuses on the production of wines from native grape varieties such as Vranac, Kratosija, Krstac. They own a vineyard with an area of 2300 ha and annually export 16 million bottles of wine in 40 countries around the world!
During the 4-hour tour, visit three wine cellars and learn about wine-making techniques. This tour will bring you a great amount of information and the shared experience will be very helpful. You will taste wines from premium series such as Chardonnay Barrique, Vranac Barrique, Vranac Reserve, Luča, Pro Anima Pinot Blanc, Vladika along with food pairing – traditional Montenegrin dishes included. Optionally, you have the option after the tour to visit the beautiful Cijevna waterfall. This place with a scenic view is absolutely perfect for a short break.

DAY 3 – NOVI – PERAST – GRADANI (B, D)
After a delicious breakfast, make your way to today’s first winery, also a monastery from the 11th century, on the Adriatic Sea. After about two hours of driving along beautiful landscapes you will arrive at the estate at the impressive bay of Kotor. Today you will learn about the benefits of grape growing and winemaking in the lush Mediterranean vegetation and forests surrounding it and how this winery manages to make light and fresh summer wines and the native white variety, the Žižak (zhizhak). During the visit you will be offered a wine tasting. On the way back, you will have the opportunity to visit the Baroque city of Perast and the famous islet of Lady of the Rocks, as well as the old town of Kotor which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (optional).
This is followed by a visit to the second, more discreet, winery of today, located at an altitude of 400 meters. Not only will it impress you with its majestic location, but also when you hear about their refined traditional methods of wine making! In addition to the storage technology in barrels and stainless steel tanks, the oenologists of this winery also use amphorae and kveries to store the wine. The method of making wine in kveries has been known since the time of the state of Urartu, that is, approximately from the 8th century BC. Since 2011, this method has been included in the list of intangible cultural UNESCO heritage. Wine tasting is included of course. In the late afternoon, drive back to your eco wine resort.

DAY 4 – THE “M” WINE HOUSES (B, D)
Today you will visit three wineries and discover the secrets of their traditional winemaking from each. Two of them are located in the area of Lake Skadar, while the third is close to the Adriatic Sea. The first winery is located near the village of Rvasi. Thanks to the favorable climate and the many hours of sunshine per year, this winery has been making high-quality wine, brandy and liqueurs, including Cognac, for many generations. The very hospitable owner and his family are happy to tell you about their techniques and share their decades of experience with you. They will also receive you with different types of wine, combined with traditional dishes. On the way to the next winery, you will take a short break at the viewpoint “Pavlova Strana” and visit Rijeka Crnojevica.
The second winery of the day you will visit has a ten generation tradition of winemaking. Like many other families in this region, this winery also produces fruit brandy. After some explanation about the winery you can taste their delicious wines.
From this winery, your wine tour goes to the third winery near the town of Ulcinj. Bordering the longest beach in Montenegro and thanks to the mountainous hinterland, the wine from the third winery you visit has a special, authentic taste. The owners will tell you all about grape growing in this area with the highest number of hours of sunshine per year. You will be offered a wine tasting at sunset. In the late afternoon, drive back to your eco wine resort.

DAY 5: DEPARTURE AND TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT (B)
Breakfast at the eco wine resort. After the breakfast, transfer to the airport according to your flight schedule. If you want to extend your wine tour, you may also want to go to one of the neighboring countries, for example Croatia or why not make a whole multi day trip, for instance ten days, through the Balkans ending in Sofia, Bulgaria, or Thessaloniki, in Greece. So, take advantage of this moment to visit little-known wine-producing countries such as Bosnia, Serbia, or even Macedonia. Do not hesitate to ask us for a tailor-made quote without any commitment.
