Program
DAY 1: ARRIVAL LONDON – ENGLAND (D)
Today you arrive by train or plane in London, the capital of England. Upon arrival, get a short transfer from the airport to your hotel centrally located on the River Thames in historic and beautiful Windsor. You can also choose to travel to London by train and then to Windsor by local train (read the “other information” section on this train journey). After check-in at your hotel, you are expected for a delicious glass of English wine as a welcome drink. After this follows a relaxed dinner with wine pairing. If the weather permits, you can sit on the terrace with a view over the Thames. Rest of the evening at leisure, perhaps a leisurely stroll along the Thames or through the historic city center.
Overnight.
DAY 2 – SATURDAY – VINEYARDS, WINE, CIDER AND BEER (O)
After breakfast, you will go on a day trip to some of the excellent but lesser known wineries and vineyards south of London. Thanks to the hard work of many wine enthusiasts, it has now become apparent that the English chalk hills are capable of producing delicious sparkling wines. It is increasingly recognized that these are actually world class. You will first travel through some beautiful landscapes and villages with a rich history. Shortly after this, you will arrive at the first winery where you will enjoy a private tour with wine tasting. After the wine tasting, a traditional pub lunch follows in beautiful Henley-on-Thames which is home to the annual Henley Royal Regatta boat event. This town is also known for the home of George Harrison, owned by The Beatles. His family is still a resident of the very impressive Gothic-style Friar Park Estate.
After lunch, your next stop is a historic winery where the first vines were planted in 1166 and more recently replanted in 1979. More than 10,000 vines are now growing with a myriad of grape varieties. Here you will enjoy a private tour, wine tasting and, if possible, meet their expert winemaker. Weather permitting, you will also see their beautiful garden. After this you travel back to Windsor. Dinner on your own. There are a number of nice pubs and restaurants within a few minutes walking distance from the hotel. If you prefer to stay indoors, there is an excellent bistro in the hotel itself.
Overnight in Windsor.
DAY 3 – SUNDAY – DEPARTURE (B)
The day is free until the departure of your flight or train in the late afternoon. For example, when you come to England by train, you can enjoy a visit to Windsor Castle in the morning and a visit to central London in the afternoon. Windsor Castle is the world’s oldest inhabited castle and Queen Elizabeth’s favorite residence. The castle is located right in the center of the town with historic buildings, pubs, tea houses and alleys surrounding it. In the early afternoon, travel by local train to central London to admire Tower Bridge and Big Ben. Or choose to do some last-minute shopping on Oxford Street before continuing to St Pancras International train station.
If you prefer to take it easy, you can enjoy your free time in Windsor, possibly a relaxed visit to Windsor Castle. Depending on your flight times, you will get a transfer to the airport in time for your flight back home. Of course, you can always book an extra night in central London to see a bit more of the city. Ask us about the possibilities for a free, customized quote.
Other information :
If you choose to travel to England by train, you have to change between St Pancras International where you arrive with the Eurostar and King Cross Station for the local train. This connection is easy to do. On the way you then have to transfer again at the same station to a different line. The journey time between St Pancras and Windsor Station takes approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
