During this 12-day wine tour you will travel through one of the less visited but better wine countries of South America, Uruguay. After arriving in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, you will visit several wineries for a full week and sleep in beautiful wine hotels. A true wine experience and discovery for every wine lover!

Program
DAY 1 – DEPARTURE TO URUGUAY
Today you will depart with a stopover in Madrid to the capital of Uruguay, Montevideo. The start of a beautiful wine journey to a relatively unknown but certainly to discover wine country that will surprise you happily. You arrive the next day.

DAY 2 – ARRIVAL MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY (D)
Today you arrive at the largest city in Uruguay, Montevideo. Upon arrival, you will be transferred from the airport to your city centre hotel. After check-in, you will have a city tour with a visit to the main highlights of Montevideo. You will see the historical part of the city and admire the different architectural styles such as Art Nouveau and Art Deco. You will see the original City Hall building, the city’s cathedral and Independence Square strongly linked to the national hero Jose Gervasio Artigas. Later, visit the Parliament Building and visit traditional neighbourhoods such as “Prado” (where upper-class families built their mansions to enjoy summer in the countryside), “Punta Gorda” and other residential areas. In the evening you will be transferred to a trendy restaurant for a “finger food style” dinner and wine tasting (wines from all regions of Uruguay). You will learn with the help of a sommelier about each wine region of Uruguay and its wines, combining the best with tonight’s dishes. Return to the hotel.

DAY 3 – VISIT WINERIES AROUND MONTEVIDEO (B, L)
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and embark on a great excursion that will take you to one of the most beautiful wineries in the Montevideo area. Here you are going to taste some of the best wines Uruguay can offer you. Then you will go to another wine region known as Las Brujas. During your visit to this winery, you will be offered a wine tasting and lunch with a beautiful view over the vineyards. Return to your hotel in Montevideo.

DAY 4 – VISIT TWO OF THE MOST ICONIC WINE HOUSES OF URUGUAY (B, L, D)
In the morning, after breakfast, your driver will pick you up from your hotel and leave Montevideo to visit 2 of Uruguay’s most visited wineries. First, you will visit an iconic winery that is more than a hundred years old. You taste the wines, visit the underground wine cellar and enjoy the gardens. Then the driver will take you to another beautiful winery where you will participate in a wine tasting and have lunch. This time you will experience the experience of an overnight stay in a wine hotel. Your room is located almost literally at the foot of the vineyards, a bottle of wine and the stars of the rural tranquillity will be the perfect company to enjoy this beautiful winery. Dinner included.

DAY 5 – CARMELO, THE TUSCANY OF URUGUAY (B, L)
In the morning, after breakfast, your driver will pick you up and take you to Carmelo, Uruguay’s Tuscany. After about 3 hours’ drive you will arrive in this beautiful wine region, one of the best known of this unique wine country, located in the west of Uruguay. Most wineries are located in the Colonia Estrella wine region. Your first stop is a beautiful winery where you will have lunch paired with wines. After this you will go to the second winery of the day, located a few minutes’ drive from here. The owner takes you through the vineyards and accompanies you at the wine tasting. Back to the hotel.

DAY 6 – CARMELO (B, D)
After breakfast, you have a free morning. In the afternoon you will visit a beautiful winery in the area of Carmelo. Here you will participate in a wine tasting, visit the wine cellar and explore the area surrounding the winery. Then you visit a second winery, also a wine lodge, where you learn to make your own wine, your own blend, as winemakers for a day. Dinner included. Return to the hotel.

DAY 7 – COLONIA AND PUNTA DEL ESTE (B, L)
After breakfast, today you will visit Colonia del Sacramento, a beautiful colonial town with stone sidewalks. Walking tour with local guide who will tell you all the secrets of this UNESCO World Heritage city. Lunch in the old town. In the afternoon you will go to Punta del Este where you will spend the night tonight.

DAY 8 – PUNTA DEL ESTE (B)
After breakfast you have a free morning. After lunch, you will discover the eastern region of Punta del Este on a half-day excursion, including the famous city beach José Ignacio. After crossing the “La Barra” bridge, visit the city of La Barra with its famous beaches such as Montoya and Bikini and coastal towns such as Punta Piedras, Balneario Buenos Aires and La Juanita, before arriving at José Ignacio. Afterward, continue to the Atchugarry Foundation (in case it is closed, visit the Ralli Museum). After this you return to Punta del Este. Before sunset you visit Casapueblo, where you attend the “Sun Ceremony”. Return to your hotel.

DAY 9 – CHIC VINEYARDS EXPERIENCE (B)
After breakfast, visit one of the most beautiful wine regions in the country and two new wineries. Today’s first winery with world-class wines and one of the 10 best wineries in the world to visit also has a restaurant where Chef Francis will make you a special dish. To complete this wonderful day, visit a second special winery today. The stone wine cellar, the great building and the wines are the perfect addition to end the day in the best way. Return to the hotel.

DAY 10 – RETURN TO MONTEVIDEO (B)
After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Montevideo. The rest of the day is at your discretion.

DAY 11 – BYE URUGUAY (B)
After breakfast, and depending on your flight times, you will get a transfer to the airport for your flight back home… or an extension of your trip to one of the other beautiful wine countries near Uruguay such as Argentina. You can also fly directly to Chile from Uruguay. Ask us about the possibilities for a non-binding customized quote.
DAY 12 – ARRIVAL AT HOME
Today you arrive home after a long flight. End of this fantastic wine tour.
